On friday I was invited to visit a preview of the new fashion exhibition at the Gemeentemuseum in the Hague. It is titled ‘Mr Darcy meets Eline Vere’ and features some amazing pieces from the romatic era, as well as some pieces by designers such as Vivienne Westwood, JP Gaultier, Edwin Oudshoorn and more. A beautiful dress by Jan Taminieau was actually bought by the museum. Take a look at some of the amazing 19th century pieces of the expo!
The hairstyles were inspired by the romantic fashion and updated with a modern touch. Meaning a lot of pastel and pretty braids. How amazing does this braid look?
This is the outfit that Colin Firth actually wore in ‘Pride and Prejudice’ That’s probably the closest we’ll ever get to be to this man ladies, so don’t miss out!
The dress on the left is the new piece by Jan Taminau that was bought by the Gemeentemuseum. This room was filled with beautiful dresses by modern designers that were inspired by the 19th century.

A corset, look at how tiny the waist line is.
We were shown a great sneak preview into this expo. Madelief Hohé opened with the story behind it, and we could ask questions during a walk through. Though not everything was in place yet, it was amazing to see so much history and details.
If you like Jane Eyre, Eline Vere, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and Downton Abbey, you’ll love this. I can really recommend visiting the Gemeentemuseum!
